This year’s Winter Choir Concert was held on December 22, 2024, the last day of school for Wilson students before going on the holiday break. The orchestra and choir played and sang beautiful pieces that were amazing to hear. Choir sang “God Bless Us Everyone,” “California Dreaming,” “Christmas Tree Farm,” and “Hallelujah.”
Orchestra played, “God Bless Us Everyone,” “Music for Loonie,” “Dance of The Tumblers,” “A Classic Alleluia”, and of course, “Hallelujah” along with the choir. The overall performance and experience of the assembly was really good and graceful. It felt like being transported into a different universe with the sound of the strings especially, feeling fairytale-like with certain songs being played.
The atmosphere was also super chilled out, making the music feel relaxing and enticing to listen to. Mrs. Ellis, the teacher and head of orchestra was really fascinating at the assembly. With every song, she tells the history of each song before they start playing. Mr Heard, the choir teacher, directed the choir’s part of the show.
Camila Vasquez, a sophomore in the performing arts department and in Mr. Heards 3-4 class said, “I think the winter choir assembly was better than last year. Being a chorus student, I always felt it was kinda hectic. I think it went better than last year’s assembly. And we also got to do more songs with our class than singing with the orchestra last year.”
Gianna Paget, a junior in the performing arts pathway also said this about the assembly, “The choir concert was a very fun experience, I feel like we all came together collaboratively. It’s nice to do things with friends and make new friends, it can be very embarrassing to do a performance in front of the entire school, so who you become close and accustomed with is always nice. I think it was a really good turn out and everyone enjoyed it at the end of the day, and I would definitely do it again.”
“I feel like the assemblies went very well, I was pleased that it flowed. I think the kids did a great job, and it just put everyone in a festive holiday mood that lasted throughout the winter break. Amen.” Mr. Heard shared.
Overall, the assembly turned out an eventful performance with many talented students. Many enjoyed watching the winter choir and definitely encouraged the program in being recognized more in the Wilson High School community.
