On January 18th, 2024, Wilson High School Dance held their annual Winter Dance Show; Wilson Dance also held two more dance shows for friends and family to watch on Friday, January 19th and Saturday, January 20th at 7pm in the Auditorium.
To kick off the show, the advanced group came out and showcased their mesmerizing performance. Dressed in elegant, shimmering costumes that reflected the blue winter theme, they showcasted their extraordinary skills, moving in a perfect harmony to the enchanting music that filled the auditorium.
Phoebe Robarge, Senior and Advanced dancer/director in the Wave pathway shared how learning these dances was a long and difficult process. She shared a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson: “Life is a journey, not a destination.” “The journey was great but the destination should be even better” she stated.
As the show went on, intermediate 1-2 dancers took the stage, radiating energy and enthusiasm. Their outfits added a blend of creativity adding an extra layer of visual delight to their grateful movements. As they made amazing transitions coming out by each level such as intermediate 3-4, intermediate 5-6, and intermediate 7-8 all dancers flawlessly executed their choreography.
After all the dancers performed, advanced dance came out once again. Dancing to “Women” by Doja Cat, “Water” by Tyla and “Brains” by BANKS. When they started off with the set “Women” by Doja Cat their movements embodied confidence and empowerment, perfectly complementing the songs empowering lyrics.
Transitioning seamlessly into “Water” by Tyla, the dancers displayed grace, mirroring the song’s melodic atmosphere. Concluding their set with “Brains” by BANKS, the advanced dancers delivered a dynamic and intense performance, capturing the allure of the music through the choreography. Their synchronized performance showed the emotional expression and profound connection to the chosen tracks, leaving the audience thoroughly impressed in the artistry of the performance.
As the show progressed, dancers burst onto the stage with infectious energy, moving dynamically to the beats of “It’s Going Down” by Yung Joc. Their spirited performance set the stage as Advance dancers seamlessly transitioned into “Don’t Hold the Wall” by Justin Timberlake. The atmosphere took a turn when the intermediate 7-8 group stepped forward, delivering a powerful routine to the melody of “Devil That I Know” by Jacob Banks.
Transitioning to a lively anthem the intermediate 1-3 dancers electrified the audience with “Girls Run the World” by Beyonce. As the advance dancers returned to the stage captivating the audience with “Lot of Me” by Lil Tecca. We then saw intermediate 3-4 group brought a touch of ethereal beauty to the evening with a mesmerizing set “Angels in Tibet” by Amaarea. The diverse range of music choices showcased a truly unforgettable experience.
Josiah Castro, Junior in the Performing Arts Pathway, in Intermediate 7-8, said “My favorite part of the dance show overall was probably tap because it is where advanced and Intermediate 7-8 connect and we just have fun”.
As 7-8 made their bold entrance dressed in vibrant colorful suits, immediately capturing the audience’s attention. Their first performance started off with “Gummy” by Lolo showcasing a perfect blend of playfulness. Transitioning into a more somber yet mesmerizing mood, the advanced dancers dressed in teal dresses performed to “Innocence and Sadness” by Deeming. The atmosphere then intensified as 7-8 group returned the Purge audio which seamlessly transformed into “Humble” by Kendrick Lamar. The stage came alive with the intermediate 5-6 dancers interpretation of “Jealous” by Labrinth, followed by 7-8 electrifying performance to “OMG” by Usher.
Towards the end of the assembly, stage crew came out and were applauded by the audience for making the Winter dance show possible for helping the show run smoothly, providing lights, and much more.
In a spectacular finale, all dancers united, creating a symphony of movement as they joyfully danced together, bringing the evening to a filly sound of talent and unity.
Andrew Renteria, senior in intermediate 3-4 and the Leadership and Public Service pathway, shared how his favorite part of the show was dancing to hip hop. “I feel like hip hop was my favorite part because everyone loves hip hop and we had a hype circle so we were all hyping each other up which was very fun and cool.”
The winter dance show brought so many smiles to peoples faces and made people full of joy watching such an amazing performance. This was all possible thanks to Wilson Dance for putting in all the effort and having an amazing performance , Mr. Heng and Bruin productions for filming the show, and to the stage crew for helping with lights and much more.
