Long Beach, Ca – On October 30, 2024, Woodrow Wilson High School held its annual Homecoming Fair, a day filled with thrills and excitement. This was a highly anticipated day, as Wilson fans eagerly waited all day for the fair. Clubs joined together to create a very fun and engaging environment. Planning for this day began months in advance, with various clubs and organizations meeting to brainstorm ideas, coordinate activities, and ensure every booth would offer something special for every student. Many booths sold everything from refreshing smoothies and Gatorade to delicious hot dogs, pizza, and even Crumbl cookies, much to the approval of Wilson students and staff alike.
People lined up to compete in Mortal Kombat, which cost about five tickets per game. The competitive spirit was appreciable, especially when Senior Jessy Montez declared victory after defeating four opponents in a row without losing a single match. It was an intense showdown that had the crowd cheering, bringing a sense of friendly competition among the attendees. Senior Luke Mcintyre shared his excitement, saying that his favorite part of homecoming was simply “hanging out with his brother, Shane, while checking out everything.” It illustrated how the fair was not just about the activities, but also about spending quality time with friends and family. Jessy Montez was full of energy, proclaiming, “I enjoyed kicking my friends’ butt in Mortal Kombat!” which drew laughter and cheers from the crowd. The fun of the games created a community atmosphere, reinforcing the idea that there was something for everyone, whether you were into sports, video games, or simply wanted to enjoy delicious food.
In addition to video games, the fair offered a booth dedicated to face painting for just one ticket, allowing students to express their creativity and school spirit. The Loudspeaker Club was a hit as it sold pizza from Costco, a fan favorite that sold out in no time. The lines for food were long, filled with students chatting and laughing. Meanwhile, a crowd gathered to watch students brave enough to take the stage and perform, showcasing their talents and bringing energy to the event. Another popular booth was the basketball challenge, where basketball team members invited students to test their skills by attempting to dunk on them. It was hilarious, and it drew both participants and watchers, with everyone sharing in the friendly competition.
Additionally, concerts featuring Josh Difiore and Gabriel David were highlights on the main stage, with their performances stealing the show and keeping the energy high for hours. Difiore enjoyed singing songs from David Kushner, one of his favorite artists. The “Roots to the Stem” club also attracted attention, selling homemade pasta that had students lining up for a taste. The fair was overflowing with food options and festivities, ensuring that no one went hungry or bored. After months of careful planning, students and staff turned the event into a success.
Overall, the Homecoming Fair proved to be a fun day for the Wilson community. It offered a rare opportunity for the Bruins to connect with one another, celebrate their school spirit, and create lasting memories. It felt great to see everyone come together, reinforcing our identity as Bruins and leaving us all excited for what next year’s fair will bring!
