LONG BEACH, Ca – The Wilson Bruins took the trip to South Whitter to take on the California Condors on Thursday, September 12th, 2024. Wilson came off a win last week against Sunny Hills and carried that momentum into this game with a 63-10 win. On the other hand, California was looking for their first win of the season in front of a big home crowd. It was all Bruins, as they fired on all cylinders in the first half. Junior running back Jamell Edmonds started with one of his four touchdowns to put the Bruins up early in the first quarter. On the other side, California followed that up with a 61-yard touchdown from wide receiver Ricky Gonzales, who tied the game up at 7.
Junior quarterback Mack Cooper and Senior wide receiver Max Barbee continued their impressive season with a 70-yard catch and run to give the Bruins the lead right back. The momentum didn’t stop there, as Wilson never looked back after that touchdown. They scored four more touchdowns before the half, putting the Bruins up 42-10 at the break.
It was Junior running back Jamell Edmonds’ game as he finished with 100+ yards to go along with his four touchdowns. Edmonds said,“I’m not finished yet,” when asked how he felt after such a great game. Quarterback Mack Cooper also said, “It felt great to show out for the school and my team” after throwing for two clean touchdowns and 200+ yards. More touchdowns from Sophmore Evan Mack, freshman Kyle Harris, and Junior RickQuan Thompson ran up the scoreboard to an impressive 63 points by the final whistle.
When asked how it felt to catch his first varsity touchdown, Evan said,“I worked hard in the offseason to achieve this moment, and it feels good.” The sophomore looks to continue his breakout season with five games left in the year.
The Bruins move on to 3-1 after this big win on the road and are back at it to play Millikan on Friday, September 27th.
