LONG BEACH,CA- Wilson High’s K-Music club is a Korean music based club that follows genres such as Korean R&B, pop and hip hop. They meet every Monday in room 4208 during lunch.
This club showcases what it’s like to be immersed in the music of other languages outside your own as well as the culture. This club includes dancing and performing aspects for those who are interested in learning the choreography that go with the songs they listen to within the club.
Dreanna Battle, sophomore in the arts pathway and the president of the K-music club, stated: “it’s for anyone who has ever felt like the odd one out for liking Korean music, regardless if it’s k-pop or k-r&b.”
“We want to show that you don’t have to be Korean to like the music, it’s ok to have interests outside of your culture” stated by Tru Salter, a sophomore in the visual arts pathway and one of the vice presidents of the club.
Mckayla Jordan, a sophomore in the arts pathway and the other vice president of the club, stated, “I love seeing how excited people get about this club and what we are about. The music we listen to may be in a different language, but I feel like it brings us closer together.”
The most common reason for people wanting to engage in this club is the energy of bringing everyone together when you walk into the room. This club may be just intended for music lovers, but the committee and board hope to strive for something more than that.
