LONG BEACH CA- On March 13th the Wilson Bruins took on the Millikan Rams, resulting in an overall win for the Bruins. The girls had a great start winning the first race in 1st, 2nd, and 4th place in the open 200 Yard Medley Relay, and the boys ended it with the same placement in the varsity 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.
This was a great night for the Bruins; Coach D’Sa praised his team for their closeness, stating, “The team also seems to be closer together. Everyone from senior to freshman, from varsity to open has really started coming together.” This is something the team has been honest about wanting to improve and D’Sa is proud that they have truly begun to work as one. D’Sa also praises his team for their grittiness.
“They are hanging onto their time a little more. They don’t wanna fall off,” D’sa said. Swimmer Antonio Loria-Appuzo also feels “the energy we’re putting forward to trying and win Moore League is different from last year.”
This team wants to win and they have no plans to stop improving. Loria-Apuzzo wants the team to never stop improving on their brotherhood. He said, “…just knowing you have this brotherhood behind you, you can do anything.”
Swimmer Eli Vince has a similar feeling choosing to comment on the team having “less individualism” compared to past seasons.
Coach and swimmers are working towards a common goal this year; Win League. Although team support goes a long way, Vince also wants the team to “go hard every day and give 100% every day.” In the past, Vince said to reach their goal, this team will have to put in early morning and work the hardest they’ve ever worked before.
