On January 16th, Girls soccer held their annual senior night in the Bruin stadium against Poly. Wilson displayed a portrait of each senior with their name and number. Seniors were honored by the school and the people in the bleachers when they received flowers. Wilson Girls Soccer captain, Cindy Norfles, made the winning goal in the first quarter 25 minutes in the game.
The atmosphere was electric as the team faced off against the rival school Poly High School. The seniors were determined to make this night unforgettable. The crowd cheered with every successful block and interception.
Sabrina Cordova, senior, team manager, and in the wave pathway shared that, ”It was senior night we were really emotional and everyone just came together. That’s the loudest I’ve ever heard the bench before too. A lot of people showed up so that helped.”
Girls soccer felt the love and support which encouraged them to go out for their team and get the win against Poly. “We did amazing, we ate that, we did so good” Citlalli Sanchez, a senior in the Tech pathway shared.
Despite Poly High’s relentless attempts to equalize, Wilson’s defense held their ground by graduating players. The goalkeeper made crucial saves which lead to 1-0. When the clock hit zero, Wilson High School’s girl’s soccer erupted with joy. The seniors with their pride high and happiness through the roof embraced each other savoring the taste of victory. It was not any ordinary win but a farewell for the graduating players who poured their hearts into the game throughout their high school journey.
Madeline Estrada a senior in the wave pathways last hope for the season is to ”Hopefully win Moore league this season.” As their last two games are approaching against Millikan High School and Cabrillo High School, we will continue to support them.
