LONG BEACH,CA- Rallies are a significant part of our Wilson student experience that occur almost every Friday of the school year. It kicks off with the drumline performing multiple of their songs that spirit groups such as Cheer, Color Guard and the Bruinettes dance along to during nutrition. Once the performances are over, ASB takes the chance to give different student groups at Wilson spotlight on our campus – whether it be a club or a sport by introducing them and playing a game.
Reeling in the Bruin spirit as students close the week and go into enjoyable weekends is one of the goals the rallies want to accomplish. The woman behind the beloved rallies and Wilson activities Ms. Fekjar, the Wilson activities director stated “I love right when the drums start. Bell rings then drums and that is my favorite part of the rallies. They are a great way to keep the school spirit alive.”
Rally Chair Adriana Alfonso, a junior in the LPS pathway, stated, “It starts off the weekend right, gets everyone hyped for Friday and brings everyone together.”
Dylan Gomez, the ASB president as well as a senior in the LPS pathway, stated “ I wish we could make the rallies longer because it’s a part of the school culture and a lot of people look forward to it.”
Rallies don’t only keep Wilson alive, as students make it through the week of their studies and extracurricular activities, but they give the Wilson staff a chance to smile even while taking care of their responsibilities. Friday rallies are a part of what makes Wilson the school it is and many people wouldn’t have it any other way.
