LONG BEACH, CA- On Friday December 15th, African Ambassadors held their first ever school held event within the quad. “Taste of Africa” introduced a variety of dishes from the continent of Africa including Fufu, Egusi Soup, Puff Puff and more. Students and faculty from all backgrounds came together to indulge in the cultural event.
This environment was created for students to experience cuisine outside of their cultural norms or embrace their own without judgment. The board of African Ambassadors along with their sponsors Mr. Osae-Brown and Mr. Evans worked together to make this event a success.
“The options of food were very flavorful so I would like to see similar events like this on campus with other cultures,” Ebony Mendoza, a junior in the BioMed pathway stated.
Charles Chatman, a junior in the tech pathway stated “Everybody came together to try different foods, although the taste was different from what I’m familiar with, I enjoyed it.”
Valentine Kyles, a junior in the BioMed Pathway stated “It was something new for me to indulge in when it comes to cultures outside my own.”
African Ambassadors invited Veronica’s Kitchen from inglewood,CA to cater the food for the recent event as well as help the board sell the free samples and plates of food. Sharing the cultures within the school while bringing in outside sponsors was an important step in accomplishing the event.
There are Africans within our very own campus as well as outside of Long Beach all together.
By the end of the event, all the food was sold out to the students and faculty of Woodrow Wilson High School. What a successful afternoon it was.
