Long Beach, CA – Wilson’s dance department is introducing an original student show put together by the dancers within the department. The choreography includes a variety of genres such as jazz, hip-hop, and tap.
The student show is set to embody the feeling of learning the art of dance while transitioning to teaching that same art for the student choreographers. It is set to be an open space for students dancing to demonstrate their waves of creativity not only in their movements but within songs, formations, and even costumes. The production will be an authentic look into the heart of the student dancers that populate our campus.
“You feel in charge and proud to see your work showcased compared to presenting an outside choreographer’s dance piece,” Rhian Wactor, a junior in the LPS pathway stated.
Sherell Rivers, a senior within the Performing Arts pathway “People deserve to be seen in terms of their visions within dance and how they work when it comes to putting together their creativity,” said.
Michelle Jusionis, dance teacher and instructor of the Wilson Dance Department stated “I think part of being a dancer is learning to work with other dancers whether it be in a leadership position or not. We all have ideas and artistic expression so I hope people enjoy seeing the various talents the department has to offer in this show”.
The event is based on dancing but is on the road to incorporating instrumentals as well as choreography. Student Show in the end is meant to express that being a performer is what you make of it and push the choreographers to dive deeper while finding their own perspective on the art of dance.
