LONG BEACH CA- The girl’s water polo took another win Friday December 1 against Los Alamitos this past Friday. JV started the night winning 9-7 and Varsity ended it with a score of 15-7.
Los Alamitos started the night by scoring a goal in the first couple minutes but the Bruins quickly followed that with four goals from Junior Katherine O’Dea, Senior Jermonie Billingsly, and Senior Emily Cribari before Los Al scored their last goal of the period. The second period was followed by 4 goals by Bruins Billingsly, O’Dea, and Pippa Haver, and one more by Los Al ending the first half 9-3. The last half was no different the Bruins scored 7 more times adding Iris Hisky and Reece Haga to the names of players who scored this game, Los Al scoring 4 more times ending the game 15-7.
After the game, the team expressed confidence in their season and the upcoming game against Oaks Christian on the 5th Cribari saying “I’m excited, I’m ready to dominate.” Cribari is excited to play the team’s rival saying “If we just kept going we could [win]” Coach Barry O’Dea is also confident in the team’s ability to play a good game against the team saying “It’s gonna be a good game they have a good young group, we played a version of them in the off-season and it went into overtime.”
Before the next game, Coach Barry plans on working on “being patient on offense” making sure they don’t rush early in the shot clock, hopefully gaining more shooting opportunities. O’Dea wants the team to work on their “5-man defense” and “[communicating] more so we know where the shot block should be.”
