LONG BEACH,CA- On Tuesday, October 31, 2023, Woodrow Wilson High School students celebrated Halloween by expressing themselves with their favorite costumes.
Historically, Halloween is dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints, martyrs, and all the faithful departed. In fact, Halloween is the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day.
For example, Junior Gabriel David from Wilson celebrated Halloween by wearing a Dr. Gabriel costume. When asked about why Halloween is important to him, he said, “It’s about being with people, it’s about being with friends you know about, and Halloween is about rejoicing in life and death.”
In addition, WAVE senior Stratton Keele was asked the same thing and had other ideas. “Because we all pretend we are awesome people like Walter White.” For students, it’s about rejoicing with friends and they really enjoy “seeing everyone’s costume and creativity,” said Senior Garrett Paterson. This is overall a great day for everyone involved.
To celebrate Halloween, Wilson had a Halloween Costume to celebrate who was wearing the best costume. As a result, the winner of the Halloween Costume contest, Junior Naila Burgess wrote “a Pimp named Slickback” costume that won her the competition. She said she loves to “go all out” and not be very serious with her costumes and overall just have fun with it.
Finally, Halloween is more than the costumes and dressing up and trick or treating. It’s about the memories you make with friends and family. Wilson students had a great time celebrating Halloween this year and are looking forward to doing it again next year.
